Jewellery history lectures.
Besides practical teaching I also teach jewellery history. If you’re part of an institution and are looking for a guest teacher, I’m always happy to look at options to share knowledge with your students!
You can get in touch about custom lesson material, or for a ready-to-teach class. I currently have multiple lessons on offer within the themes RENAISSANCE JEWELLERY STUDIES (1-3H) and THE FULL HISTORY OF JEWELLERY TECHNIQUES IN EUROPE (5-10H). You can expect university-level teaching with in-depth knowledge presented in a fresh and interactive way.
For impressions please have a look further down this page.
Thus far I’ve been invited as a guest teacher at The University of Amsterdam (NL), Galdus Formazione (IT) and Studio Patina (NL).
No matter your location, as long as English is an applied teaching language in your institution, please get in touch at info@juliabocanet.com with your proposal or enquiry. I look forward to hearing from you.
GUEST TEACHER at UNIVERSITY OF AMSTERDAM
An impression from my lecture THE EVOLUTION OF GOLDSMITHING IN ‘EUROPE’ (9H total) taught at UvA in Amsterdam (NL).
The objective of this two-day class is to understand the evolution of the goldsmithing craft in Europe, starting with Mesopotamia and Egypt up to the Art Deco period. Your students will discover the most important techniques and understand when and why these were developed. By the end of the course they will be able to also recognize a jewel’s original time period much faster thanks to stylistic explanations and quizzes.
Designed to be integrated in a jewellery module for MA Metal Restoration, craft schools or beginning goldsmiths.
GUEST TEACHER at GALDUS FORMAZIONE
An impression from my lecture RINGS OF THE RENAISSANCE (1H total) taught at Galdus Formazione in Milano (IT).
The objective of this short class is to understand how Europeans wore their rings in the 16th and 17th centuries. Many will be surprised that it is quite different from today. Your students will discover all the hidden messages goldsmiths and customers used to place in their rings, how they’d wear them on their fingers and body, the evolution of the wedding ring and much more.
Designed to be both educational and inspiring for scholars and craft students.
